Pet Aftercare: Pet Removal & Cremation Service

Pet Removal

We know how difficult it is to lose your beloved pet and want to help make removing your pet from your home as stress-free as possible. We’re here to help respectfully handle your pet’s remains.

Pet Removal Following Euthanasia Service

Dr. Rosen will remove your pet’s remains after performing the home euthanasia service. She will then transport your pet to her home, where Gateway Pet Memorial will pick up your pet for cremation.

Cremation Service

Dr. Rosen has partnered with Gateway Pet Memorial, a pet crematory committed to providing the best in pet aftercare services. The team at Gateway understands the importance of dignified, respectful, and compassionate aftercare and promises that your pet will be handled with the same amount of integrity and respect as their own pets.

Gateway offers two different types of cremation services: private cremation or regular/communal cremation. Dr. Rosen will ask you what type of cremation you would like for your pet when you are booking your appointment. Following the euthanasia, she will work with Gateway to arrange the aftercare for you.

Private Cremation

With this service, your beloved pet will be cremated alone in a private chamber. Once the cremation service is complete, the cremated remains of your pet will be returned to your regular veterinary clinic. You will be notified when they are ready to be picked up. Each private cremation includes a complimentary scattering tube or silk pouch. Decorative urns and other memorial products are available at an additional cost.

Communal Cremation

With this service, your beloved pet will be cremated in a group setting with other pets. Once the cremation service is complete, the cremated remains are removed from the communal cremation chamber. A fraction of the remains from each regular/communal cremation are interred at the Ancaster Pet Cemetery in a communal burial plot. Please note that the cremated remains of your pet will not be returned to you with this service.

Pet Urns & Optional Memorial Items

A variety of decorative urns, paw prints, keepsakes and other items are available at Gateway as a way to memorialize your beloved pet.

If you choose to have a private cremation for your pet, Dr. Goldie will give you a specific email link with your pet’s name, your last name, and your phone number at the time of your appointment. This can be used to browse/select optional memorial products using the Lasting Memories online portal from Gateway.

You will have the opportunity to choose additional memorial products for 48 hours following the passing of your pet. If you require more time to do this, please contact Dr. Rosen or Gateway and they will be happy to assist you.

FAQ

Q. If I choose “Private” cremation, how can I be assured that I will receive the remains of my pet?

A. Gateway is an accredited pet crematory and adheres to a strict set of procedures and protocols to ensure that the cremated remains that are being returned to you are those of your pet. Your pet will be assigned an identification tag, which will be with your pet throughout the entire cremation process, ensuring accuracy and accountability at every step.

Q. If I choose private cremation, do I get an urn?

A. Each private cremation service includes a complimentary scattering tube or silk pouch. A variety of decorative urns are available to order from Gateway at an additional cost.

Q. How long does the cremation process take?

A. The process typically takes about two weeks. Some memorial products may take longer as they will need to be custom ordered.

Q. Who will transport my pet to the crematorium?

A. Dr. Rosen will make arrangements with Gateway to have your pet transported to the crematorium.

Q. Where can I pick up the cremated remains and memorial keepsakes that I ordered?

A. Once the cremation process is complete, your pet’s ashes and aftercare products will be delivered to your regular veterinary clinic. You will be contacted with an email notification by Gateway directly. Your regular veterinary clinic may also contact you by phone to notify you that your items are ready for pick-up.

Most importantly, Dr. Rosen and the team at Gateway would be honoured to take care of your pet’s aftercare. If you have any questions about the services or products available, aftercare process, or any other inquiries, please call 905-876-7766.

Our dog is ill and he is in too much pain to continue living. He is very nervous at the vet's and we would prefer to do this at home.
